More about me.
My name is Sophie and I am a professional singer and recording artist, with over 15 years of experience singing at Events, Weddings, & Gigs across the UK and overseas.
I had my first singing lesson aged 9, where the class teacher awarded me ‘Sing star of the week’. This commendation sparked my love for singing and I went on to study musical theatre and accomplish exams up to Grade 8 with the London College of Music. After moving on to achieve my Diploma (LCM), I began teaching private singing lessons in North Wales Music School, whilst performing live regularly, and paid singing voiceovers for well-renowned recording companies, including the BBC.
I met my husband, Stephen (a fellow musician) at a popular Open Mic night in Chester. Stephen’s grandfather was a famous composer whose talent passed down to him- his passion for music truly matched mine. We started up a very successful acoustic duo which enabled us to travel, perform and meet incredible artists in the industry.
In 2014, we set up our own Music School in Chester ‘The Murphy School of Music’ - which has since grown, and won awards. I have taught private and group singing lessons to many students over the years. It is so rewarding to share the love of music with others.
When I stepped into motherhood, Stephen and I made the decision to perform separately to prioritise our children. I am so grateful to have a successful solo career now, while being able to be ‘present’ as a parent also, which is so important to me.
We still perform our acoustic duo when possible. Stephen now leads a fantastic function band- which I often sing lead vocals for. Life as a Solo vocalist has also meant I can perform full opera sets for beautiful, sophisticated events, Pop songs through the decades, ‘Musical Theatre’ shows where I can characterise my vocals, and of course my popular ‘Postmodern Jazz’ set which is so much fun and very popular for drinks receptions, glamorous venues, and grand events!
I absolutely love what I do and hope to show this in my performances. I would like to say a huge thanks to all the venues who book me, time and time again and support my solo business.
